Bournemouth frontrunners for Chelsea veteran

Bournemouth want to sign Chelsea captain John Terry but will have to wait until after the season has finished for the defender to make a decision about his future, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Chelsea announced they would not be handing Terry a new deal when his current contract expires at the end of the season and the 36-year-old insists he wants to continue playing in a statement announced earlier this week.

However, the former England captain is in no rush to make a decision on where his next club will be even though Bournemouth are ready to rekindle the interest they showed in January with a summer move.

Eddie Howe’s side are also expected to face competition from West Brom and Stoke, who were also both interested in the Chelsea skipper at the start of the year, as they look to secure his experience to help lift their respective clubs to the next level.

Bournemouth have struggled since Chelsea recalled Nathan Ake at the start of the year and reinforcing the defence will be an area of importance for Howe in the summer.

Terry has only started four Premier League matches this season and the last of those was in a 2-2 draw against Swansea in September. Since changing formation to a 3-4-3, Antonio Conte has dispensed with the need for his captain.
