Bayern Munich make play for Barcelona target

Bayern Munich have approached Paris Saint-Germain about signing Adrien Rabiot this month, claims German outlet BILD.

Rabiot has entered the final six months of his current PSG deal and is free to secure a Bosman transfer for the summer.

Rabiot’s career has stalled since it emerged he would not renew his PSG contract and he is expected to spend the remainder of the season frozen out by Thomas Tuchel’s side.

The France international has reportedly already agreed a five-year deal with Barcelona but Bayern are now threatening to hi-jack the transfer.

Bayern wanted to sign Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal, who has also entered the final six months of his contract, but are resigned to losing the Welshman to Juventus.

Niko Kovac’s side are now exploring whether they can accelerate Rabiot’s transfer, which would certainly suit PSG as they would be able to command a fee rather than lose him for nothing.

However, if Rabiot is adamant about waiting six months, which would enable him to demand a huge signing-on fee than Bayern will do everything to rival Barcelona’s interest.

Bayern have turned their attentions in the transfer market to signing young players following their struggles this season and have already wrapped up a deal for 22-year-old 2018 World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard for the summer.

The defending Bundesliga champions have also been heavily linked with January moves for Chelsea teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi and 22-year-old Atletico Madrid starlet Lucas Hernandez, who won the World Cup with Pavard.

Only PSG team-mate Thiago Silva (77.6) is averaging more passes per game than Rabiot (74.8) in Ligue 1 this season.
