Manchester United lead race for Real Madrid sensation

Manchester United are leading the race to acquire Real Madrid man Marco Asensio, but they will need to spend big to sign the youngster according to the Daily Star on Sunday.

Asensio only cost Real Madrid £3m to sign from Mallorca in 2014 and spent last season on loan with La Liga counterparts Espanyol, where he scored four goals and registered a further 10 assists.

The 21-year-old has made only five league starts under Zinedine Zidane this term as he struggles to force his way into the Real Madrid starting XI.

However, the Spanish giants rate Asensio highly and are in no hurry to sell one of their prized assets any time soon.

Indeed, United would have to spend £40m to secure the services of the attacker, while Chelsea and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the Spaniard.

Jose Mourinho, though, is keen on bringing the Asensio to Old Trafford and could sanction a move for the player at the end of the season.
