Marquinhos has handed Paris Saint-Germain with a boost after pledging his future to the club next season.
Unai Emery’s side are currently in a battle to keep star man Marco Verratti at the club and there have been suggestions Manchester City are interested in prizing Marquinhos away from the Ligue 1 giants as well.
The 23-year-old has spent the last four years at PSG after making the big money move from Roma in 2013 but was forced to wait until last season before making himself a first-team regular.
After missing out on Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, Pep Guardiola is still keen to sign another centre-back this summer but it seems his only chance of signing Marquinhos is if PSG manage to make a mess of contract talks with their star defender.
“I am happy in Paris, the project of the club is ambitious,” he told SporTV, via Get French Football. “PSG do not want to sell me and alongside Marco Verratti I am part of the basis of the club’s project.
“Aside from that, it will depend on the negotiations [for a contract extension], because it is never simple, but I think that I will stay.”
Only Fresnel Kimpembe (94.7%), Dante (94.1%) and Thaigo Silva (93.9%) finished the 2016/17 Ligue campaign with a better pass accuracy than Marquinhos (93.6%).
