Tottenham to rival Manchester City for French midfielder
Tottenham have earmarked Lyon midfielder Tanguy NDombele as a top transfer target for January, claims The Daily Mirror.
The north London outfit reportedly had a £40m bid rejected for the 21-year-old in the summer but are ready to return for the Frenchman at the start of next year.
NDombele is in line to earn his first France cap during the international break after impressing for Lyon this season.
Tottenham were the only Premier League side that failed to make a single summer signing but will back Pochettino in January following their stuttering start to the season.
With Moussa Dembele coming to the end of his Tottenham career and fitness concerns surrounding Victor Wanyama, a new midfielder is a priority for Pochettino.
However, Tottenham will face competition from rivals Manchester City for the £55m-rated midfielder.
City manager Pep Guardiola failed to sign a new central midfielder in the summer after missing out on top targets Jorginho and Fred to Chelsea and Manchester United, respectively.
Guardiola is weighing up a move for Wolves’ Ruben Neves and Ajax starlet Frenkie de Jong, but NDombele is another target for the reigning champions.
Only former West Ham ace Dimitri Payet (5) has registered more assists than NDombele (4) in Ligue 1 this season.
