Liverpool identify RB Leipzig star in bid to strengthen

Liverpool have identified RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner as a potential striking target this summer, reports the Independent.

The Reds are expected to splash the cash in the transfer market following a sub-par second half to the season that eventually saw them wrap up a top-4 finish.

A return to European football means Liverpool need to improve and Werner is one of a number of targets for the Merseyside outfit, which includes RB Leipzig teammate Naby Keita, Southampton star Virgil van Dijk and Hull left-back Andrew Robertson.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a fine season for the Bundesliga debutants last term, scoring more goals (21) than any other player aged 21 and under in Europe’s top five leagues last season.

RB Leipzig are understandably keen to retain the services of the Germany international, along with Keita, but can expect a flurry of interest from Germany and abroad in Werner following a superb campaign that saw him earn a WhoScored rating of 7.29.

Liverpool have already begun their summer recruitment drive with the capture of Dominic Solanke from Chelsea and won’t stop there, with a move for Mohamed Salah also in the pipeline as Klopp goes about bolstering the club’s attack.
