Sanchez and Mkhitaryan switch set with medicals planned today

Alexis Sanchez will make the move to Old Trafford this weekend according to The Mirror, who reported late on Friday night that the Chilean was called away from the Arsenal squad to make the trip to Manchester.

The drawn out transfer saga will see Henrikh Mkhitaryan move in the opposite direction and become an Arsenal player, with medicals for both players set to be undertaken today.

Sanchez, 29, had long been linked with a move to United’s local rivals Manchester City but the league leaders were unwilling to offer the sort of deal that the Red Devils initially came in with, either to the Gunners or the player himself.

The former Barcelona will therefore link up with Mourinho rather than his old boss in Spain, with Pep Guardiola in charge when the Catalans signed the Chilean in 2011.

Sanchez has missed a number of games this season due to the speculation over his future, with his contract winding down in the summer, scoring 7 goals in 17 league starts.

Mkhitaryan, meanwhile, had fallen well out of favour at Old Trafford after an encouraging start to the season. The Armenian set a Premier League record with five assists in the first three games of the campaign but has failed to add to that tally since, and he’s not had a hand in a single goal in any competition since September.

His time in Manchester is set to come to an end having started just 26 of a possible 61 league games since his arrival in the summer of 2016.
