Chelsea eye audacious move for Juventus defender

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is eyeing a raid of former side Juventus for star defender Alex Sandro, according to Calciomercato, via Football Italia.

Sandro, who turns 26 this month, only joined Juventus from Porto in 2015 but has emerged as Max Allegri’s first choice defender on the left of their back five this season, ousting veteran defender Patrice Evra.

The Brazil international is widely regarded as one of the best full-backs in Europe and his ability to play in a back four and five would have caught Conte’s eye after employing a similar tactic at Chelsea this season.

The Chelsea manager is determined to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window after recouping a staggering £60m from the sale of Oscar to China but any deal to sign Sandro would likely require an obscene amount of money to convince the Serie A champions to part ways with the future of the left side of their defence.

With Evra’s future uncertain at the club, you’d think there is no way Juventus would even consider letting Sandro leave the club this month and they have no reason to part ways with the Brazilian as he has four years remaining on his existing deal.

Not only is Sandro Juventus’ highest rated player in Serie A this season (7.59),but only Nice full-back Ricardo Pereira (7.65) has secured a higher rating of all defenders in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
