Liverpool confirm Coutinho’s move to Barcelona

 

Liverpool have confirmed that Philippe Coutinho has moved to Barcelona for a fee believed to be in the region of £140m. 

 

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the Brazil international and pressed hard for his signature over the summer. 

 

Liverpool remained steadfast in their quest to retain Coutinho’s services, but have since confirmed that the attacker has since moved to the La Liga leaders. 

 

“Liverpool Football Club today issued the following statement regarding the future of Philippe Coutinho,” a statement read on Liverpool’s official website. 

 

“Liverpool FC can confirm Philippe Coutinho will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona, subject to medical and agreement of personal terms. 

 

“The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities to conclude the transfer immediately.”

Coutinho is expected to pen a five and a half year deal with Barcelona, with a €400m buyout clause inserted into his contract. 

 

The 25-year-old has scored seven goals and registered a further six assists in the Premier League this season, with his WhoScored rating (8.03) better than any other player in England’s top tier.
