Roma have announced Kevin Strootman has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal keeping him at the club until 2022.
Strootman has rediscovered his best form this season after putting a series of serious long-term knee injuries behind him to enjoy his most involved campaign since his maiden year at the club in 2013.
The Netherlands international has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United but Roma have moved to secure his best years as they look to close the gap at the top of Serie A on Juventus.
“The extension is special for me,” Strootman told the club’s official website. “I really want to win something here, and I will do everything I can to achieve that. Everyone at the club was behind me during my injury, and that is another reason I am delighted to stay.”
Strootman has directly contributed to 11 goals in 33 league appearances this season after scoring four and providing a further seven assists. Furthermore, only eight players won possession in the midfield third more times in Serie A this season than the 27-year-old (125).
