Marco Silva eyes up Baines successor at Everton

Everton have made a bid of £22m for out of favour Barcelona left-back Lucas Digne, reports the Daily Mirror.

Toffees boss Marco Silva views the 25-year-old as a long-term successor for Leighton Baines at Goodison Park.

Baines, 33, has made the starting spot on Merseyside his own since his arrival from Wigan back in 2007, but Silva is keen to inject fresh blood at the back with Digne fitting the bill.

The Frenchman has struggled for regular first team action following his move to Barcelona from Roma back in 2016.

Indeed, the Frenchman has failed to oust Jordi Alba as first choice left-back at Camp Nou, with Digne registering just 22 league starts for the Blaugrana in the last two years.

Barcelona are eager to retain his services, but Digne is keen on a move away from Spain as a lack of game time cost him his spot in the France squad at the World Cup.

The Toffees were previously courting Kieran Tierney, yet have since dropped their interest in the Celtic left-back and turned their attention to Digne.
