Real Madrid ace open to Manchester United switch

Manchester United have been offered encouragement in their pursuit of Toni Kroos with the midfield maestro open to leaving Real Madrid if the club fail to win a trophy this season, according to Spanish outlet Diario Gol, via The Sun.

The Premier League giants missed out on Kroos’ signature when he left Bayern to join Madrid in 2014 but have rekindled their interest in the Germany international after identifying him as the perfect player to succeed Michael Carrick on a long-term basis.

Kroos, 27, only signed a long-term deal with Madrid back in October but will reportedly consider his time with the Spanish giants if they end up with no major silverware at the end of the season.

Madrid were knocked out of the Copa del Rey in January and a mini blip has seen them drop into second in the league, although they would leapfrog Barcelona back into first if they win their game in hand on their Spanish rivals.

Zinedine Zidane’s side are also still on course to become the first side to successfully defend the Champions League trophy after overcoming a brief scare to beat Napoli and progress into the quarter finals on Tuesday.

Only four players have registered more assists in Europe’s top five leagues this season than Kroos (9), who also set up Madrid’s first two goals in their 3-1 win over Napoli on Tuesday.  Not only that, but no midfielder has a better pass success rate than the Madrid No.8 (92.1%).
