Long-term Barcelona target Marquinhos has committed his future to Paris Saint-Germain and wants to sign a new deal with the Ligue 1 champions.
Marquinhos, 22, is widely regarded as one of the best up-and-coming defenders in the world and has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in the past since making the £27m move from Roma in 2013.
The Brazil international has previously spoken about his desire for regular first-team football at PSG after making a relatively slow start to life at the Ligue 1 champions, but has emerged as a first-team regular under Unai Emery this season in the wake of David Luiz’s summer exit.
Marquinhos still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his existing deal with the club but is keen to agree fresh terms to secure his best years at the club.
“This is my fourth year [in Paris] and I am used to life here,” Marquinhos told TF1’s Telefoot. “I have learned French and my family likes Paris, so I want to stay.
“I hope that I will extend but this does not depend only on me. It is on the right track so we will see.”
Of players to have started more than five Ligue 1 games this season, only Dante (95%), Adama Soumaoro (93.7%) and club teammate Thiago Silva (93.5%) have a better pass success rate than Marquinhos (92.6%).
