Real Madrid will turn their attentions back to Monaco defender Benjamin Mendy if they fail to land Atletico Madrid loan star Theo Hernandez this summer, reports AS.
Zinedine Zidane’s side are determined to sign a long-term successor for Marcelo this summer with Fabio Coentrao set to leave the club at the end of the season and are aware of the difficulties of signing Hernandez.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding season out on loan at La Liga side Alaves this season but Atletico would rather do business with any other side than sell one of the most exciting European rivals to their city rivals this summer.
Aware of this problem, Madrid will instead reignite their interest in Mendy, who has similarly been in brilliant form for Monaco this summer.
Mendy is widely expected to leave Monaco after just one season at the club with a number of European clubs interested in his signature. The 22-year-old has provided eight assists across Champions League and league competition for Monaco this summer, all from left-back.
