West Ham marquee signing out for four months

West Ham are set to be without summer signing Andre Ayew for four months after it was discovered the striker would need surgery and significant rehabilitation to correct a thigh injury, reports The Daily Mirror.

The Hammers’ illusive hunt to sign a top class striker culminated with the club-record arrival of Ayew from Swansea for £20.5m but the frontman only lasted 35 minutes before he was forced off against Chelsea on Monday.

Scan results have now revealed Ayew has sustained significant damage to his thigh and the appropriate rehabilitation means he isn’t expected back until December and may not feature again until 2017.

Ayew impressed with 12 goals in his maiden campaign in the Premier League last season and his conversion rate (17.9%) ranks among the best of players since the start of last season (min 10 goals).
