Barcelona turn attentions to Chelsea defender

Barcelona are growing tired of their pursuit of Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin and are ready to turn their attentions back to Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta, reports MARCA.

Ernesto Valverde’s side have earmarked the arrival of a new right-back as a priority signing this summer after failing to replace Dani Alves 12 months ago.

The La Liga giants were hopeful of re-signing Bellerin from Arsenal this summer but have all but conceded defeat in their pursuit of their former academy graduate.

While a blow for the Barcelona board, Valverde reportedly rates Azpilicueta above the Arsenal full-back and the former Athletic Club head coach has tried to sign the Spain international in the past.

The 27-year-old was a standout player for Chelsea in their league-winning campaign and was arguably the most consistent performer for Antonio Conte during his first season in charge.

However, it remains to be seen where the Spain international fits in Conte’s plans ahead of the new campaign. Chelsea signed Roma centre-back Antonio Rudiger last weekend and will reportedly beat Juventus to the signature of Danilo from Real Madrid, who would be ahead of Victor Moses at right-back.

Azpilicueta was one of only two outfielders that featured in every minute of Premier League action last season (3420).
