Chelsea keen on Bayern Munich veteran

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is weighing up a move for Bayern Munich veteran Manuel Neuer this summer, reports German outlet Bild.

Lampard wants to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper at the end of the current campaign after failing to warm to club-record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea spent made Kepa the most expensive goalkeeper of all-time in August 2018 after splashing out £71.6M in a shock deal.

The Spain international has done little to convince in that time, however, and even dropped out of the first-team picture for a time before football was suspended.

Kepa returned to first-team action in Chelsea's last two games and was in great form in wins over Everton and Liverpool, respectively.

However, Lampard is still determined to sign a replacement for the 25-year-old and has earmarked Neuer as a shock target.

Neuer is widely expected to leave Bayern on a free transfer this summer when his current deal expires after almost a decade at the club.

The Germany international's form has dipped considerably in the last 12 months and the 34-year-old has struggled with numerous long-term injuries in recent years.

Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nubel will join Bayern in the summer and the Bundesliga giants are reportedly also keen on Barcelona's Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

Neuer has a less-than-impressive save success rate of 64.4% in the Bundesliga since the beginning of last season, albeit still better than Kepa's 62.6% in the same period.
