Real Madrid plot world record move for Neymar

Real Madrid want to test Paris Saint-Germain’s resolve with a spectacular world record bid for Neymar in the summer but must first sell players to fund a move, claims The Independent.

Neymar only joined PSG in the summer after the Ligue 1 giants paid a world-record £200m fee for the former Barcelona star but Unai Emery’s side have already been forced to deny suggestions of discontent in France.

Madrid, who wanted to sign Neymar when he joined Barcelona in 2013, have been heavily linked with a move for the Brazil international throughout the season and have done little to deny those talks.

The reigning European champions have endured a disastrous season and it is widely accepted that they need to revitalise their offensive options with Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo coming to the end of their cycle as a dominant force.

Madrid president Florentino Perez has not made a Galactico signing since James Rodriguez in 2014, having missed out on Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe in recent years.

However, Perez is looking to change that this summer but will first need to sell players before ramping up the club’s interest in making a controversial move for former Barcelona star Neymar.

Despite an uncertain future at PSG, Neymar’s performances on the pitch have been nothing short of astonishing.

The 25-year-old is the only player to register both double figures for goals (15) and assists (11) in Europe’s top five leagues this season, while the PSG No.10 is also the highest WhoScored rated player (8.94).
