Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti has admitted his regret at not signing Robert Lewandowski when during his reign at Chelsea.
The 56-year-old spent two years at Chelsea from 2009-2011 and has revealed he was tracking the progress of Lewandowski prior to his decision to join Borussia Dortmund in 2010.
Ancelotti continued to track the Poland international during his time at Real Madrid but the former AC Milan head coach missed out on signing Lewandowksi when he moved to Bayern Munich in 2014.
“He’s a player that I have always followed, particularly in the first part of his career, when he was at Borussia Dortmund,” Ancelotti told Goal.com.
“Lewandowski was being followed by many clubs, not just me. But even when I was at Chelsea, I was tracking him.
“Also, while I was at Madrid, but by then he was already going to Bayern, so it was too late.”
The Poland striker is arguably the hottest striker in Europe at the moment having scored 15 goals in his last seven matches for club and country. In fact, since the start of September the 27-year-old has only failed to score in two games.
