It hasn’t been a campaign to forget for every member of the Hazard family this season. While Eden Hazard has struggled at Chelsea, Thorgan Hazard, his younger brother, has finished the campaign strongly and is beginning to emerge from his brothers’ shadow.
Hazard, 23, who spent three years contracted to Chelsea before being signed by Gladbach permanently at the start of 2015, started the season down the pecking order but has forced his way into contention under Andre Schubert since February.
The creative midfielder has been a regular fixture in the starting XI in recent months and earned his first perfect WhoScored rating (10.0) against Hertha Berlin on Sunday after netting a brace in a surprise thumping 5-0 win over Hertha Berlin.
In fact, his brace against Hertha meant he had scored one more goal in 83 minutes than he had previously managed in 1,190 minutes of league action this season. Not only was Hazard a threat in front of goal (six shots on goal), but he also completed four tackles, leading by example at the forefront of their attack.
Mahmoud Dahoud, who also features in the Bundesliga Team of the Week, assisted both of his goals. The German midfielder only misplaced seven of his 50 passes (86%) and completed six tackles and three interceptions.
The Gladbach duo are joined in the Team of the Week by defender Nico Elvedi, who won more aerial duels than any other player on display at Borussia-Park (5).He also completed a combined 8 tackles and interceptions and was pivotal in allowing Gladbach to keep their fourth clean sheet on the bounce at home.
