Chelsea striker out for the season and World Cup doubt
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed on loan striker Michy Batshuayi has suffered ligament damage to his left ankle and will not play for them again this season.
Batshuayi has been a revelation for Dortmund since joining on loan from Chelsea in January and the Bundesliga side are determined to prolong his stay at the club beyond this season.
The 24-year-old was stretchered off at the end of Dortmund’s 2-0 defeat away to rivals Schalke at the weekend and now the German side have confirmed their worst fears.
Batshuayi will now miss Dortmund’s remaining four league matches and is a big doubt for Belgium ahead of the 2018 World Cup. The Chelsea striker would normally make Roberto Martinez’s squad but now faces a race against time to prove his fitness.
The Belgian striker has scored nine goals in 14 appearances across league and European competition for Dortmund during his short spell at the club.
In fact, only Robert Lewandowski (12) has scored more Bundesliga goals than Batshuayi (7) in 2018.
This will make it harder for BVB to finish in the top four. They've largely been garbage this season and the sooner this season ends the better
