Nigeria want to convince Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham to switch his international allegiances from England and declare for the Super Eagles.
Abraham has established himself as a regular for the England U21 side over the last 12 months but is yet to make a single appearance for the senior side and is eligible to play for Nigeria through his father.
The 21-year-old has been on Nigeria’s radar since the summer of 2016 and Amaju Pinnick, the president of the Nigeria Football Federation, hopes that his close relationship with Abraham’s father can play a part in securing the youngster’s international future.
“We are working on getting Abraham,” the London Evening Standard quote Pinnick as saying. “Tammy is like my son. His father and I grew up in the same neighbourhood. So when they talk about him, I just laugh because I know what to do.”
Abraham made a real impression in the Championship with Bristol City last season and is currently on loan at Swansea for the duration of the campaign in order to get regular first team football at the highest level.
The youngster opened his account for Swansea before the international break in their 2-0 win away to Crystal Palace and picked up the WhoScored Man of the Match award.
