Palace striker handed three-match ban

Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham has been handed a three-match ban for violent conduct, the Football Association has confirmed.

Wickham, 22, was charged with violent conduct following an incident with Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen in the second half of their 3-1 defeat on January 23, which was missed by the match officials.

The former Sunderland striker accepted the charge but has failed in his appeal against the three-match ban, which will rule him out of Palace’s FA Cup fourth round fixture against Stoke and two Premier League fixtures versus Bournemouth and Swansea.

Wickham has endured a frustrating time at Selhurst Park since making the surprise switch from Sunderland over the summer, with only one goal to his name, which came from the penalty spot.

In fact, Wickham hasn’t scored a league goal from open-play since April 25, 2015, which came for Sunderland against Stoke.
