Milan star a doubt for Inter clash

AC Milan are sweating on the fitness of Alessio Romagnoli after their star defender picked up a groin injury in Italy’s 0-0 draw against Germany on Tuesday night.

Romagnoli, 21, has been in sublime form for Milan this season but is now a major doubt for the Derby della Madonnina after being forced off at half-time of Italy’s goalless friendly against Germany.

The 21-year-old is now set for further tests after it was initially confirmed the defender had suffered a groin injury on Tuesday, leaving him a major doubt for Sunday’s derby against Inter.

“AC Milan announces that Alessio Romagnoli suffered a groin injury during the match with Italy on Tuesday night,” a statement read on Milan’s official club website, via Football Italia. “The player will undergo further medical examination in the new few days.”

Milan star a doubt for Inter clash

Romagnoli, who was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer, has featured in all but one of Milan’s 12 league games this season and his absence at the weekend would be a real blow, as Vincenzo Montella’s side look to keep tabs with Roma and Juventus at the top of Serie A.

In fact, the Italy international has completed at least 75 more passes than any other Milan player in the league this season (498).
