Chelsea defender completes move to Russia

Zenit St. Petersburg have confirmed they have completed a deal to sign Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic on a free transfer.

Ivanovic had entered the final six months of his current deal with Chelsea and was given the greenlight to leave the club this month after being told his contract would not be renewed at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old landed in Russia earlier on Tuesday to complete his medical and finalise terms on his move to Zenit, bringing the curtain down on his nine-year stint with Chelsea.

The Serbia international, who was also linked with a move to West Brom earlier this month, has dropped out of contention since Conte changed formation to a back three and has now put pen to paper on a two-and-a-a-half-year with Zenit.

Despite the fact his form has fallen off a cliff in the last two campaigns, Ivanovic has still only committed two errors that have directly lead to an opposition goal in the Premier League in his last 245 appearances.
