Juventus defender to miss Napoli and Bayern fixtures

Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini will miss crucial fixtures against Napoli and Bayern Munich after being ruled out for up to 20 days with a leg injury, Juventus have confirmed.

Chiellini, 31, was forced off in the second half of Juventus’ 2-0 win over relegation strugglers Frosinone on Sunday.

And it has now been confirmed the Italy international will be sidelined through injury for the next 20 days.

“Giorgio Chiellini, who was subbed off during the game against Frosinone, underwent his medical exams today,” the statement read on Juventus’ official website.

“The exams revealed an injury to the triceps surae muscles of the right leg. It will take about 20 days for him to start athletic activity again.

It means the central defender will miss Juventus’ huge league match against Serie A leaders Napoli Saturday and the first-leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie at home to Bayern Munich for sure, while he looks unlikely to feature against Inter in the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg at the end of the month either.

Since the start of August 2014, only two players have completed more accurate passes than Chiellini in the Champions League (1,068).
