Karius set for early Liverpool return

Liverpool have been handed a boost during the international break with summer signing Loris Karius set to return to full training next week.

Karius, 23, joined from Mainz over the summer and was set to replace Simon Mignolet as Jurgen Klopp’s No.1 goalkeeper before he broke his hand during pre-season.

However, the German goalkeeper’s rehabilitation has gone better than expected and he has revealed he will report to full-training next week.

“I had surgery on Wednesday, so now the wires [the support that had been placed in his broken hand] have been removed that they put in four weeks ago,” Karius told Liverpool’s official website, via The Daily Mail.

“Now the fracture has healed, hopefully I can start training and build it up. I just need to see how it feels. But I can now start using my hands and catch balls. It’s up to me now, basically.”

Only four goalkeepers made move saves in the Bundesliga last season than Karius (122).
