Highly rated German midfielder on Liverpool’s radar

Liverpool scouts were in attendance in Germany U19s’ 5-1 win over Belarus on Wednesday night to run the rule over Kai Havertz, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Bayer Leverkusen star is one of the hottest young prospects in Europe and did not disappoint on Wednesday night as he scored four goals in the resounding victory.

Interest in the 18-year-old is high, with Liverpool hoping to steal a march on their rivals in the race to sign Havertz, who became the club's youngest ever Bundesliga player at the age of 17 years and 126 days when he made his debut last October.

The attacker is yet to score in the Bundesliga this season from his four appearances, two of which have been starts, but Bayer Leverkusen are eager to retain his services.

Indeed, Havertz penned new deal with the German outfit in July, which now runs until 2022, in a bid to deter potential suitors.

That is unlikely to hinder Liverpool in their pursuit of Havertz, particularly with Bayer Leverkusen languishing in 11th in Germany’s top tier after seven matches.
