Leipzig starlet turned down Arsenal and City

RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita has revealed he turned down interest from a host of Premier League sides to remain with the Bundesliga outfit.

Keita, 21, spent the last two years with Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg before joining last season’s Bundesliga 2. runners up Leipzig over the summer.

However, the Guinea international has sensationally revealed there was interest from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool over the summer before he moved to Germany.

“Arsenal, Manchester City and Southampton were all interested in signing me and Liverpool as well, although I did not speak with their coach,” Keita told SportNet, via London Evening Standard.

“I did not want to join a big Champions League club right away. It is too early for that. I want to prove myself in the Bundesliga first now.”

Leipzig, much to the anger of other Bundesliga teams, have been a sensational start to life in the Bundesliga. They are currently second, only two points behind leaders Bayern Munich and one of three teams in Germany’s top flight still yet to taste to defeat.

Keita is currently Leipzig’s highest rated player (7.40) having scored three goals from seven appearances despite being a defensive midfielder.
