Real Madrid have announced Casemiro broke his leg during their 2-0 win over Espanyol at the weekend.
Casemiro, 24, was taken off after 19 minutes of Sunday’s win after being accidentally kicked while blocking a shot.
The injury wasn’t first thought to be serious but the true extent of the knock was hidden by swelling and he will now be ruled out of contention for Brazil during the international break, as well as several games for Madrid.
“Following tests carried out today on Casemiro at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a fracture to the central third of his left fibula. His recovery will continue to be assessed,” read a statement on Madrid's official website.
Since the start of last season Casemiro has completed more tackles than any other Madrid player in La Liga (88).
