Liverpool striker set for new deal

Liverpool want to reward Divock Origi with fresh terms following his decisive display in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Barcelona, claims The Independent.

Origi scored twice against Barcelona, including the decisive fourth goal, to complete Liverpool’s remarkable comeback win in the Champions League semi-finals.

Liverpool are the first team since Manchester United a decade ago to reach successive Champions League finals and Jurgen Klopp’s side want to hand Origi a new contract.

The Belgium international has barely featured under Klopp but has scored important goals this season, including winners against Everton and Newcastle in the Premier League title race.

Origi, who will only have 12 months left to run on his current deal at the end of the season, was tipped to leave Liverpool this summer with a new striker on Klopp’s wishlist.

However, with Daniel Sturridge set to leave Liverpool when his contract expires this summer, there could now be a place for Origi in Klopp’s first-team plans next season.

Origi has only started five games across league and European competition this season, making a further 13 appearances as a substitute across both formats. He has returned five goals in that time, one every 97.8 minutes of playing time.
