Oxford and Ipswich have already expressed an interest in the 39-year-old, but now Lampard has emerged as a frontrunner for the vacant Derby job.
The Rams are on the market for a new manager after Gary Rowett left to take over at Stoke earlier this week.
Derby finished sixth in the Championship this season but were eliminated in the playoffs by favourites Fulham.
Lampard is one of 20 candidates being considered by Derby, but the former England international is thought to be the favourite.
Derby have been stuck in the Championship for the last decade after being relegated from the Premier League in 2008 with a record-low points total (11).
