Chelsea star avoids FA action

Chelsea striker Diego Costa will not face retrospective action from the Football Association following his clash with Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, reports The Daily Mirror.

Costa has surprisingly managed to keep a lid on his temper for the majority of the season but things threatened to boil over in their 2-1 win over City on Wednesday night when he appeared to kick out at Kompany.

Fears were raised suggesting the Chelsea ace could be hit with a retrospective ban if the FA deemed the offence worthy of a charge of violent conduct, but it is now understood that referee Mike Dean saw the incident and did not deem it a red card offence.

Costa has picked up seven bookings in the Premier League this season but his general conduct has hugely improved under Antonio Conte in comparison to his performances last season that bordered on farcical.

Nevertheless, Conte will want Costa to refocus his attentions on rediscovering his best form in front of goal after only managing four goals in his last 12 competitions, picking up three bookings in that period.

Chelsea star avoids FA action

Chelsea have all but wrapped up the Premier League title after following up their shock defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend with a win over rivals City on Wednesday, but they are in an FA Cup semi final against Tottenham later this month, which Costa will need to be at his best for.

Despite a dip in goalscoring form, only three players have scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Costa (17).
