Chelsea have signed Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji for £2.5m on a four-year deal, the Premier League champions have announced.
Jose Mourinho’s side have been scouring the transfer market for a new central defender following their unusually poor start to the season and have turned to the 26-year-old after failing with four bids for John Stones last month.
The Senegal international finished last season as Nantes highest WhoScored rated player in Ligue 1 (7.31) and the central defender won possession in the defensive third more times (150) in France’s top-flight than any Chelsea player managed in the Premier League since August 2014.
