Everton break transfer record to sign League One starlet

Everton have announced they have completed a deal to sign Charlton Athletic teenager Ademola Lookman for an undisclosed fee.

Lookman, 19, has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League since the start of last season after bursting onto the scene with Charlton.

The England Under-20 international has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year deal with Everton and has cost Ronald Koeman’s side a reported £10m, which would make him the most expensive player ever signed from League One.

“It feels great to be an Everton player,” Lookman told the club’s official website.

“As soon as I heard about Everton’s interest I knew this would be the right place for me.

“Everton has a big history and I was also attracted by the manager. When you look at what he did at Southampton, and what he does with young players in terms of developing them, that was a big attraction.

“It was great playing in the Championship last season and for the last six months in League One but I feel like I’m ready to make the step up to the Premier League.”

Everton are expected to be one of the busiest teams in the January transfer window after their stuttering start to the campaign with all areas of the pitch in need of addressing.

With club record signing Yannick Bolasie ruled out until 2018, strengthening in attack has become an area of immediate attention, with Lookman one of several players expected to join the club this month.

Only Josh Magennis (8) has scored more goals for Charlton this season than Lookman (7).
