Former Barcelona boss could still take over at Chelsea

Former Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique might still succeed Antonio Conte as Chelsea boss, reports Sport.

The Spaniard had been heavily linked with a Stamford Bridge switch earlier in the year, but negotiations went cold with Arsenal supposedly in the running for Enrique too.

The Gunners eventually appointed Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s successor, while it seems the Blues had turned their attentions towards Maurizio Sarri.

However, negotiations with Sarri have reached an impasse, so much so that any deal to bring the Italian to Chelsea could now fall through.

It’s now rumoured that Chelsea will return for Enrique to save on paying Napoli any compensation for Sarri.

The 48-year-old has been out of work since leaving Barcelona last summer having guided the Blaugrana to the Copa Del Rey in his final season at the Camp Nou helm.

Enrique is now primed to put pen to paper on a three-year deal in west London as Chelsea look to recover from a poor season that saw them finish outside of the top four.
