Barcelona have announced they have reached an agreement with Gerard Pique about a new contract that will run until June 2022.
Pique’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of next season but the Spanish giants have moved to tie down the defender’s best remaining years.
Barcelona will announce a date when Pique will officially sign his new contract in the coming days and Ernesto Valverde’s side have included a stunning €500m (£441.3m) release clause in his new terms.
The 30-year-old has established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe since returning to Barcelona from Manchester Untied in 2008 and his new deal will almost certainly see him finish his career at the Camp Nou.
Since August 2014, Pique has completed at least 207 more clearances than any other Barcelona player in La Liga (382).
