Tottenham agree €32m deal for PSV ace

Tottenham have reached a deal in principle to sign PSV Eindhoven star Steven Bergwijn after agreeing a transfer worth as much as €32m (£27.1m) fee, reports The Athletic.

Bergwijn arrived in London on Monday as talks between the two clubs continued and now Jose Mourinho's side are on the verge of landing their man.

Mourinho has been desperate to sign a new forward capable of playing through the middle with Harry Kane out for a number of months with a hamstring injury.

Bergwijn can do just that and will provide Tottenham with a huge boost in their attempts to close the gap on fourth place Chelsea.

PSV have endured a difficult campaign and are already 11 points off first place Ajax but Bergwijn has played a direct hand in 15 goals in 16 appearances (five goals, 10 assists).

The 22-year-old is poised to become Tottenham's second signing of the window following Gedson Fernandes' loan move from Benfica earlier this month.

Fernandes has been eased into life at Tottenham but Bergwijn may be required to hit the ground running with Kane out injured.

Since the beginning of last season, only Ajax duo Dusan Tadic (63) and Hakim Ziyech (47) have scored or asssisted more league goals than Bergwijn (41) in the Eredivisie.
