Real Madrid defender joins Sevilla

Real Madrid have confirmed Sergio Reguilon has joined Spanish rivals Sevilla on a season-long loan deal.

Reguilon broke into the Madrid first-team last season and even usurped an underperforming Marcelo in the pecking order.

The 22-year-old would have hoped to push on at Madrid for the upcoming season but head coach Zinedine Zidane has other plans.

Madrid have signed Ferland Mendy from Lyon in a deal worth in the region of €50m (£44.9m) to provide Marcelo with competition at left-back.

With the prospect of limited game time next season, Reguilon has instead joined Sevilla, where he will battle Sergio Escudero for a starting spot in defence.

Sevilla have been one of the busiest teams in the transfer window this summer and Reguilon is the seventh new arrival at the club.

Reguilon made 13 starts and one substitute appearance in LaLiga last season and garnered a WhoScored rating of 7.00.

Remarkably, Madrid had a win ratio of 84.6% when Reguilon started in the league compared to just 40% when he did not feature from the off.
