Paris Saint-Germain identify Koulibaly as Thiago Silva replacement

Paris Saint-Germain plan to sign Kalidou Koulibaly this summer after identifying the Napoli defender as Thiago Silva's long-term replacement, claims L'Equipe.

Koulibaly has long been regarded as one of the best defenders in Europe and has regularly been linked with a £100m move to the Premier League.

Manchester United considered Koulibaly a long-term target before breaking the bank to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester over the summer.

Koulibaly is widely expected to call time on his Napoli career at the end of the current campaign following their underwhelming season.

The timing couldn't be worse for Napoli, however, as transfer fees have been tipped to tumble as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

While Koulibaly's £100m valuation is now unrealistic, it remains to be seen what Napoli will be able to command with PSG intereted.

Thomas Tuchel's side have one eye on securing Silva's long-term future, as the Brazil international will turn 36 in September.

Since joining Napoli in the summer of 2014, Koulibaly ranks second in Serie A for most possession won in the defensive third (702).
