Tottenham star sparks exit fears

Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed he would ‘love’ to return to boyhood club Ajax in the future.

Alderweireld, 27, has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League since making the switch from Atletico Madrid to Spurs last summer and was on the scoresheet against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Belgium international, who still has four years remaining on his current deal at White Hart Lane, spent nine years at Ajax before joining Atletico in 2013 and has opened the door on a potential return in the future.

“Ajax is a fantastic club and I would love to come back one day, but I won’t make any promises," Alderweireld told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, via 101 Great Goals.

“I spent most of my career at Ajax and am thankful for those years. I was extremely happy in Amsterdam."

Only Scott Dann (5) has scored more goals than Alderweireld (4) of all defenders in the Premier League this season.
