Valencia confirm Perez transfer to River Plate

Valencia have announced they have reached an agreement with Argentinean giants River Plate for the sale of Enzo Perez that will be completed imminently.

Los Che made Perez one of the club’s most expensive players of all-time when they shelled out €25m (£22m) to sign the midfielder from Benfica in January 2015.

However, the 31-year-old has failed to make any significant impact at the club and new head coach Marcelino has given the greenlight to sell the Argentina international despite the fact Valencia will be taking a huge hit.

River are determined to get a deal done before the squad registration deadline for the Copa Libertadores on Sunday and will reportedly only pay €3m (£2.6m) to prize the midfielder back to his homeland.

Marcelo Gallardo’s side have made a notable effort to go big in the transfer market in the wake of Boca Juniors’ second league title triumph in the last three years.

Since joining the club only Daniel Parejo (216) and Jose Gaya (186) have completed more tackles of all Valencia players in La Liga than Perez (169).
