Alexis Sanchez will undergo Manchester United medical today
Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez will undergo his Manchester United medical on Sunday after finally being given the green light to join Jose Mourinho’s side, reports BBC Sport.
Mourinho admitted United were on the brink of signing Sanchez after their 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday but insisted there was still work to be done to get it over the line.
It turned out the finally touches only took another hour as it quickly emerged after Mourinho’s press conference that the decisive breakthrough had been made.
Sanchez was already on standby to join United having already agreed personal terms to a stunning £400,000-a-week deal, but had been waiting on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who will move in the opposite direction in a straight swap deal with no fee involved, to agree terms with Arsenal.
It was hoped that Arsenal would agree personal terms with the Armenia international in time for both players to make their respective debuts this weekend but talks dragged over into Saturday.
There were some doubts whether Arsene Wenger’s side would match Mkhitaryan’s wage demands but the Gunners have finally made a breakthrough and now the 28-year-old will undergo his medical with the club over the next two days.
Wenger revealed after Saturday’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace that Sanchez had already driven up to Manchester and the Chile international will undergo his medical with United on Sunday after meeting up with the club’s staff on Saturday evening.
Sanchez, who is expected to wear the fabled No.7 shirt for United, has scored seven Premier League goals this season, which is half as many as he managed at this stage of the last campaign.
