Sunderland star faces long spell out injured

Sunderland are set to be without star goalkeeper Jordan Pickford up at least six weeks after initial scan results revealed strained knee ligaments, reports The Daily Mail

Pickford, 22, has been a revelation for the Black Cats in a season in which there has been little cheer about for the supporters.

However, the England U21 international is now set to miss the next six weeks after picking up a knee injury following a clash with teammate Papy Djilibodji and Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic during their 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

Initial scan results have revealed knee ligament damage and the Sunderland ace could even be ruled out for as long as two months, which is a real blow to their chances of beating the drop.

With Lamine Kone and Didier Ndong set to jet of the Africa Cup of Nations next month, coupled with the fact David Moyes has already admitted there is no money to spend in the January transfer window, these are bleak times for Sunderland.

Pickford is currently the highest rated goalkeeper in the Premier League (7.07) and his absence is a massive blow for Moyes’ side.
