Lyon slap €70m price tag on Arsenal and Chelsea target

A plethora of top clubs in Europe, including Premier League duo Arsenal and Chelsea, have been told that it would take a monumental offer to secure the services of one of Ligue 1’s hottest prospects.

Lyon teenager Willem Geubbels turned down the offer of a new long term contract at the club earlier in the week to their disappointment, but club President Jean-Michel Aulas will play hardball with those looking to sign the 16-year-old.

He made a statement in response to confirmed interest from Monaco alluding to the money they had received last summer from some of their own top young talents, along with the fee they recently paid for 17-year-old Italian forward Pietro Pellegri.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Aulas said: "They have just cashed €300m or €400m, so they will pay for Geubbels,” adding “If Willem thinks he can have a better career in Monaco than Lyon... Monaco bought Pietro Pellegri for €25m. We will not make gifts.”

The winger, who is known to be on the wishlist of the likes of Barcelona and Bayern along with the aforementioned Premier League pair, has 18 months to run on his current deal and Lyon’s valuation of their top young prospect is incredibly high.

He has featured just four times in all competitions for the senior side this season (below), with each of those appearances coming from the bench.

"It is the end of his contract in 2019. If Monaco makes an offer of €70m we will be disappointed because we believe [in Geubbels] a lot. We are reassured by his valuation."
