De Ligt not the only Ajax star on Manchester United’s radar
Manchester United are keen on Ajax duo Matthijs de Ligt and Andre Onana but face signing neither, claims The Daily Record.
De Ligt has emerged as one of the most sought after prospects in Europe this season and Ajax have conceded their 19-year-old captain will leave the club this summer.
United have an outside chance of signing the Netherlands international but he is widely expected to sign for Barcelona, who have already agreed a deal for his team-mate, Frankie de Jong.
The Premier League giants have also sounded out a potential deal for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, but believe his €40m (£35.1m) asking price is too steep.
United have made no breakthrough in talks with first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea and may be forced to cash in on the Spain international this summer.
De Gea is approaching the final 12 months of his existing United contract and will be able to leave on a free in 2020.
Only PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet (16) kept more clean sheets than Onana (15) in the Eredivisie this season.
