Arsenal defender open to Barcelona switch

Barcelona’s pursuit of Hector Bellerin could be back on this summer with the highly rated right-back open to returning to the Camp Nou if Arsene Wenger leaves the club, reports The Guardian.

Bellerin left Barcelona to join Arsenal in 2011 and was linked with a return to the club at the start of the summer before penning a new six-and-a-half-year deal with the Gunners in November.

The 21-year-old has established himself as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League over the last two campaigns but could become the second Gooner, along with Mesut Ozil, to leave the club this summer should Wenger walk away from the club at the end of the season.

Wenger’s contract is due to expire in the summer and there are growing assertions that the Frenchman will walk away following another disappointing campaign, although he has already confirmed he will still manage next season whether at Arsenal or a at a new club.

Barcelona have prioritised signing a new right-back in the summer after failing to sufficiently replace Dani Alves, who left for Juventus at the end of last season, and would leap at the chance to bring Bellerin back to the club if he becomes available.

Only Antonio Valencia (33) and Kyle Walker (31) have completed more dribbles of all defenders in the Premier League this season than Bellerin (29).
