Inter make improved bid for Manchester United wantaway Lukaku
Inter are confident of sealing a deal for Romelu Lukaku after tabling an improved £70m offer for the Manchester United wantaway, claims The Daily Mail.
The Serie A champions have been pursuing Lukaku’s signature all summer after the Belgium international was earmarked as a top transfer target by new head coach Antonio Conte.
United have rebuffed several offers from Inter already this summer and made it clear they would only sell the 26-year-old if their £80m valuation was met.
However, Inter believe they are on the cusp of landing Lukaku, who has gone AWOL in an attempt to force through a move away from Old Trafford.
Lukaku was given permission to train with Belgian side Anderlecht on Monday but was expected back in training with the rest of his United teammates on Tuesday.
Instead of following the club’s orders, Lukaku remained in his native Belgium and has since been fined in the region of £400,000.
Lukaku’s relationship with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has completely broken down in the last week and Inter are confident of signing the striker for less than United’s £80m asking price.
Inter’s latest offer is worth £70m and Conte’s side expect a deal to go through before tomorrow’s transfer deadline for English clubs so United can find a replacement.
Lukaku has scored more Premier League goals for United (28) than any other player at the club since joining from Everton two years ago.
