Southampton have announced they have signed Crystal Palace goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and Nice right-back Jeremy Pied.
Pied, 27, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Southampton after his contract expired with Nice at the end of last season.
The French defender has followed manager Claude Puel from Lyon to Nice and now to Southampton as he gears up to taste football outside of France for the first time.
“I am someone who likes to give everything out on the pitch and leaves nothing out there,” Pied told Southampton’s official website. “I will give lots of energy, speed and hopefully try to be a bright spark during matches.”
Only two players completed more tackles and interceptions combined in Ligue 1 last season than Pied (221).
Puel’s side have also strengthened between the sticks following the departure of Maarten Stekelenburg, with the surprise signing of McCarthy.
Of goalkeepers that made more than five appearances in the Premier League last season only Petr Cech (78.3%) had a better save success rate (76.2%).
