Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has had a game taken away from his four-match ban after a successful appeal following his red card against Udinese.
Higuain, 28, was shown his marching orders for an off-the-ball incident in Napoli’s surprise 3-1 defeat against league strugglers Udiense a fortnight ago and the Argentina international needed to be forced off the pitch after reacting furiously to the decision.
The Napoli frontman was hit with a four-match ban and a €20,000 fine as a result all but ending their pursuit of a historic league title but it has now been reduced by one game meaning he is free to return against Roma at the end of the month.
His return will be a huge boost for Maurizio Sarri’s men, who could end up fending off a late Roma charge for second place in the table. Higuain has scored nearly half of Napoli’s league goals this season (47%) and is currently the joint-leading goalscorer in Europe’s top five leagues (30).
